A dozen plus years ago, I joined a portrait group in Princeton, Massachusetts that met weekly to draw and paint from a model (friends, family, acquaintances, and artists). The experience was excellent, helping me to learn to look carefully and draw, providing support from sympathetic colleagues. One kindly remarked during my first humiliating months: "Don't worry, you'll get better after your first hundred or so."
